French actor Gaspard Ulliel — who was set to appear alongside Oscar Isaac in Marvel's upcoming Moon Knight series — has died at age 37 following a skiing accident. According to CNN, Ulliel died today in a hospital in the city of Grenoble in southeastern France after suffering a severe brain injury in a ski accident on Tuesday (January 18).
Ulliel gained significant recognition for his portrayal of young Hannibal Lecter in 2007's Hannibal Rising and French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic Saint Laurent. In 2016, he won the César for Best Actor for his performance in Xavier Dolan's It's Only the End of the World.
Earlier today, French actor Jean Dujardin posted an image of Ulliel to his Instagram with a caption simply reading "Gaspard" alongside a black heart emoji.
French minister of culture Rosalyne Bachelot also tweeted in remembrance of Ulliel, writing, "his sensitivity and the intensity of his acting made Gaspard Ulliel an exceptional actor. The cinema today loses an immense talent. I send my condolences to his loved ones and my loving thoughts to all who mourn him today."
