Netflix Warns Viewers of Dangerous 'Bird Box Challenge'
The change of the calendar year gives people everywhere with another 365 chances to go viral, but Netflix is warning viewers of Bird Box to leave a potentially dangerous meme spawned by the film behind in 2018.

In the wake of the film's December 21 launch on the service, viewers have since taken part in a viral "Bird Box Challenge," in which they don a blindfold not unlike star Sandra Bullock.

Plenty of social media posts show blindfolded people wandering through the streets, working out and moving from place to place without their eyesight. One clip even shows a toddler taking a spill after running into a wall.

Today, Netflix's American account addressed the issue, writing, "Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don't know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."

The Susanne Bier-directed Bird Box was viewed on more than 45 million subscriber accounts since its arrival on Netflix.

The film was scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Read our interview with the film's Trevante Rhodes here.
