Prime Video to Introduce Ads in 2024

Another one bites the dust
Prime Video to Introduce Ads in 2024
One by one, streaming services are systematically deconstructing what made them unique from the cable television of days past.

Entertainment consumers took another hit today when Prime Video officially announced that it will join Disney+ in following in the footsteps of streaming pioneer Netflix to introduce commercials to its platform

In a press release, company representatives revealed that ads would hit Canada in "early 2024," along with the US, UK and Germany, before expanding to other countries later in the year.

If you want to continue receiving ad-free content on Prime, they've graciously offered to provide a version of their service without commercials — for $2.99 more.

The release reads that the company established ads "to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time."

Prime promises to give advance notice regarding the exact date that ads will be implemented and how to upgrade to an ad-free plan. However, if their rollout goes as poorly as Netflix's, they might reconsider before long.
