The Whale made waves on the film festival circuit — as well as here at Exclaim! — and the film is, at last, due to hit theatres next month, but not before we finally get a taste of what's to come in a new trailer.

The movie follows a reclusive English teacher (Brendan Fraser, hot on the heels of his comeback) who wants to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink). Directed by Darren Aronofsky for A24, The Whale is based on the acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter.

"Do you ever get the feeling people are incapable of not caring?" Fraser says in the teaser. "People are amazing."

While praise for the film has been overwhelming — Fraser got a six-minute standing ovation at Venice for his performance — The Whale has also been the subject of controversy, with some criticizing the film for its handling of fatphobia.
