These Were Canadians' Most Googled Movies, TV Shows and Songs of 2018
Just like any year, 2018 saw Canadians flocking to Google to figure out who and what everyone was talking about — and now the list of most searched for topics has been revealed.
The search engine has released a list of the highest trending searches across a number of categories — that is, searches that spiked in traffic "over a sustained period in 2018 as compared to 2017."
Demi Lovato topped the list of most searched musicians and bands, likely due to the news that she suffered a drug overdose in July.
Queries for Queen frontman Freddie Mercury seem to align with the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, while Cardi B and Travis Scott made the list after they both released huge albums and welcomed newborn babies this year. Hedley and 6ix9nine, meanwhile, likely made the list for more nefarious reasons like sexual assault and racketeering charges, respectively.
As for the most popular songs that were searched for, Ariana Grande took the top spot for her viral smash hit "thank u, next," while Childish Gambino followed in second for "This Is America."
Drake took up three spots in the most searched for songs list with "God's Plan," "In My Feelings" and "Nice for What," while Nicki Minaj's "Barbie Dreams" rounded out the list.
In the visual realm, Black Panther was the most searched movie, followed by films like Deadpool 2, A Star Is Born and Avengers Infinity War, while the most looked-up TV shows were Altered Carbon, Roseanne and The Haunting of Hill House.
There were also lots of searches for celebrities that passed away this year, including Anthony Bourdain, Mac Miller, Avicii, Stan Lee, XXXTentacion, Aretha Franklin and Burt Reynolds.
